Michel Contie

Managing Director, Mentorca & Non Executive Director, John Wood Group PLC

Michel Contie started his career as an R&D engineer,  in France and later in the USA, involved in development of new technologies for deep offshore oil developments. 

Within Total M. Contie has held various operational and managerial positions both in Paris and various countries of the world.  He was the Managing Director of TOTAL in UAE (Abu Dhabi) and later in 1995 became the Managing Director of TOTAL in Argentina. In 1999, he became Senior Vice President of Exploration & Production for South America, covering operations and new developments of TOTAL in the various countries of this continent.

 In 2000 he took up the post of Managing Director of TotalFinaElf Exploration UK during the merger of TotalFina and Elf, the company having subsequently been renamed Total E&P UK PLC.

 In 2006 he became Senior Vice-President Northern Europe,(25% of Total Group Production) became a member of  the E&P Directorate responsible for Total  worldwide Exploration & Production .

After retiring from Total in january 2010, he joined the Wood Group as a non executive Director .Wood Group  is a listed company with revenues 1H 2009 about  2,4 Billion $

•    From Dec 2001 to Dec 2002 M. Contie was President of the United Kingdom Offshore Operators' Association
Member of the Management Board of OGP (International Association of Oil & Gas Producers) since 2008 representing Total as elected Member )**
•    Officer of the Ordre National du Mérite
