Michel Taride

President Hertz International & Executive Vice President, Hertz Corporation

Michel Taride has served as the Executive Vice President and President, Hertz Europe Limited (Europe, Middle East, Africa) since January 2004 and as the Executive Vice President and President, Hertz Europe Limited, of Hertz Holdings since June 2006. From January 2003 until December 2003, he served as Vice President and President, Hertz Europe Limited. From April 2000 until December 2002, he served as Vice President and General Manager, Rent A Car, Hertz Europe Limited. From July 1998 to March 2000, he was General Manager, Rent A Car France and HERC (Equipment Rental) Europe. Previously, he served in various other operating positions in Europe from 1980 to 1983 and from 1985 to 1998.

As from 1st January 2010, Michel will be the EVP and President Hertz International in charge of the Hertz operations in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

Michel Taride began his career with Hertz France on leaving University in 1980. His first position with the company was Station Manager at Cannes Airport in the South of France. Following his appointment at Cannes, Michel held positions with wider regional reach and ever-widening responsibility for Hertz France operations, (our largest European country) including profit centre management, personnel, and local sales, to name a few. It was during this period that Michel learnt about the very nature of the car rental industry from the ground level upwards, earning himself a directorship at the headquarters of Hertz France, our largest subsidiary in Europe.

In the early 90’s, as Sales and Marketing Director for Hertz France, Michel was responsible for the commercial strategy and sales, marketing and partnership activities undertaken by the company, including those in the corporate segment, pricing and the travel industry in general. He was also instrumental in launching innovative marketing products, such as domestic loyalty schemes, and negotiating strategic partnership agreements with companies such as Air France, Club Med, Eurotunnel and Disneyland Paris, reinforcing the undisputed position Hertz France held, and still holds, as market leader.

Michel’s achievements during his years as Sales and Marketing Director at Hertz France bought him to the attention of senior management and in 1997 Michel was appointed General Manager for Hertz in Italy, followed by an appointment in 1998 as General Manager for Hertz France Rent-a-Car & HERC Europe, the equipment rental arm of Hertz, which he rapidly developed through organic growth and acquisitions.

Michel was appointed Vice President & General Manager Rent-a-Car Europe, in 2000. Based in London, he had responsibility for all the corporate European countries as well as the European head office functions facing the Rent-a-Car division.

It was in January 2003 that Michel was appointed as President, Hertz Europe Ltd. He has since served as the Executive Vice President and President, Hertz Europe Limited from January 2004 and as the Executive Vice President and President, Hertz Europe Limited, of Hertz Holdings from June 2006 in charge of corporate and Franchise operations throughout 80 countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa. From January 1st 2010, Michel’s responsibilities will further extend to the fast growing Asia and Pacific rims.

Born in 1956, in Morocco, Michel developed an early passion for travel, having spent most of his youth in Morocco and France. At 26 he took an 8-month career-break from Hertz to travel around the world. Michel is also a popular performer in a variety of music genres and has a passion for sailing and mountaineering.

Michel currently resides in London with his wife and three children. He is a member of the Lease Europe Advisory Board (European Car and Truck Rental Association), and of GTTP (Global Travel and Tourism Partnership) that supports education in many developing countries.
